The STEP 9 trial found that semaglutide reduced both body weight and knee osteoarthritis pain compared to placebo [24], and a large observational study using data from the Shanghai Osteoarthritis Cohort found that people on GLP-1 receptor agonists had a significantly lower rate of knee surgery, 1.7 percent compared to 5.9 percent in the non-GLP-1 group, with weight loss accounting for about 32 percent of that protective effect [22]
