OR851 Olion y Cei Gwyn Fynydd gold mine known to all climbers asatercolour Image size : 55 x 35cm Framed size : At the end of the 19th century Porthmadog was exporting slate all over the world in small schooners. On their return to the town they were full of ballast which was dumped near the entrance to the port. These timber structures are all that remains of the wharves which the boats were tied to. The dumping ground has since grown into a large island known locally as Cei Ballast.
