While we continue to consider clinical scenarios where it may be appropriate to permit the virtual presence of the teaching physician, we are proposing to continue our current policy to allow teaching physicians to have a virtual presence for purposes of billing for services furnished involving residents in all teaching settings, but only when the service is furnished virtually (for example, a 3-way telehealth visit, with the patient, resident, and teaching physician in separate locations)
We anticipate it would eliminate the need for duplicative reporting, support the team-based care approach, and allow groups to comprehensively categorize the care provided by the clinicians in a group
